1. Introduction to the Research Management Cell
Everest Engineering College (EEC) seeks to develop skilled, competent and responsible citizenship through excellent
teaching, learning, and research. The Research Management Cell (RMC) was established to foster a culture of inquiry
and innovation across all departments.
RMC will facilitate and support members of the faculty in various engineering departments in their research activities,
publications, conference participation, and collaboration with industry and academic partners.
RMC will work together with Pokhara University Research Centre (PURC) to align research activities with university-level
priorities and ensure quality and compliance.
2. Themes to Guide the Objectives of the RMC
- Support Environment: EEC will have an environment where colleagues and students support each other in their research endeavors.
- Career Development: Research is an integral part of an academician's career development and will be actively encouraged.
- Research Output Diversity: Research activities produce different outputs such as data, software, materials, and policy frameworks — all are valued.
- Rigour, Transparency and Openness: Research should be conducted with academic rigour, transparency, and a commitment to open sharing of findings.
3. Objectives of the RMC
- Prepare the knowledge and innovation workforce: Engineers invent ideas, techniques and technologies that transform society.
- Expand the frontier of research excellence: Range of activities and roles that contribute to research, innovation, and knowledge creation.
- Make EEC the best place to pursue a career: An appropriate support environment for conducting research, with recognition and reward systems.
- Raise the level of interaction with the community: Visibility of students and colleagues improves the profile of EEC in industry and academia.
- Ensure research autonomy and flexibility: A key advantage of doing research in academia is autonomy — the ability to explore and innovate freely.
4. Strategic Priorities
- Cultivate a habit and a culture of research among faculty and students.
- Ensure balance between research time and teaching responsibilities.
- Ensure students have access to learning and development programmes that build research skills.
- Provide guidelines and training to write journal articles, proposals and grant applications.
- Promote cross-department and cross-institutional discussion and collaboration.
5. Implementation Key Considerations
- Learn from best practices from other institutions in Nepal and internationally.
- Research plans will not be fully prescriptive, allowing adaptation to individual and departmental contexts.
6. Action Plan
- Grow library collections and enhance laboratories to support research.
- Target research based on individual and inter-disciplinary strengths.
- Engage students in research diversification and undergraduate research programs.
- Create mentoring efforts pairing senior faculty with students and junior researchers.
- Develop research workshops and short courses to build capacity.
7. Structure of the RMC
a) Executive Committee
The executive committee will be formed as per PURC directives and college administration guidelines.
- RMC Head: Faculty with a PhD and track record of publications.
- RMC Members: Faculty with PhD or enrolled in PhD; priority given accordingly.
b) Sub-coordination group
The role of this group is to closely monitor research initiatives within departments and ensure timely progress
reporting to the Executive Committee.
c) Advisory board
Includes external academics, industry professionals, and a Member Secretary. Provides strategic guidance and
quality assurance for the RMC's activities.
d) Student member
Students demonstrating academic excellence and research inclination can be appointed as student members of the RMC
to represent student research interests and participate in select committee activities.
8. Operation of the RMC
- Monthly meetings will be held to review ongoing projects and plan new initiatives.
- Special/emergency meetings can be called by the RMC Head when required.
- Minutes will be recorded and shared with all members within one week of each meeting.
