21st NREN Members Tech Meeting

As a proud member of NREN, I am delighted to participate in the 21st Members Tech Meeting held today at the NREN Secretariat Office, Tripureswor, Kathmandu. The event brought together network system engineers, presenters, and remote participants from across Nepal, creating an inspiring platform for technical learning, collaboration and knowledge exchange.

This meeting was particularly valuable for us as it focused on wireless connectivity in the Himalayan region, a topic of national importance for expanding communication access to remote and high-altitude areas.

Highlights:

Presentation by Prabal Lama – Wireless Expert, IT Freelancer & Network Operator
Hearing about his experiences in wireless network and satellite connectivity projects at the Everest and Manaslu base camps was both enlightening and motivating. The challenges of operating in extreme terrains and the innovative solutions adopted provided us with insights we can apply in our own network projects.

Presentation by Saroj Maharjan & Devendra Katwal – Network & System Engineers, Tribhuvan University and Nepal Open University
Their reflections on the Network Management and Internet Security Workshop at the University Computer Centre, Manila (May 26–30, 2025) gave us a global perspective on network security best practices and institutional capacity development—valuable lessons we aim to incorporate in our own work.

For our institution, events like this are not just about learning—they’re about strengthening our connections with other network professionals, exchanging real-world solutions, and being part of a community that is driving technological advancement in Nepal’s education and research sector.

We sincerely thank NREN for hosting this meeting and all the presenters for sharing their expertise. I return from the session inspired, better informed, and ready to contribute even more actively to the shared mission of enhancing connectivity, security, and innovation across our member institutions.
